Highland Park 2 Dwellings Josyln & Puritan 11-22-09 : On Sunday November 22 2009, The Highland Park Fire Department received a report of a house fire at Puritan & Josyln. Being closed to the Detroit boarder the Detroit Fire Department also responded. Upon arrival 2 Dwellings and a Garage were totally involved. Highland Park FD stretched on the buildings and used Deck guns on the fire. The Detroit Fire Department remained on scene and assisted. The fire was later determined to be in the City of Highland Park. Detroit Companies went in service and left the scene with HPFD. Highland Park Engine 1 & 2 Ladder 1 responded to this incident. Detroit responded with a full box alarm and later left the Incident with Engine Truck and Squad. Engine 40/51/44 Ladder 17 Squad 5 and Chief 8 from the Detroit Fire department responded to this incident.

Detroit Box Alarm Philip & E Forest Civilian Rescued 11-12-09 : On Thursday November 12th 2009, Detroit 6th Battalion companies responded to a reported occupied dwelling fire with people possibly trapped at Philip & E Forest. Upon arrival Engine 52 reported a working fire. Upon primary search of the building and person was located in the building was rescued and transported by Detroit EMS. Engines 52/38/32 Ladder 31 Squad 6 and Chief 6 responded to this scene.

Upon arrival of engine 38 they reported a vacant dwelling going and stretched on the dwelling. This fire was brought under control using 3 lines in aprox. 30 minutes. Detroit Box Alarm Chene & E Ferry (Extra Co's) 11-8-09 : On Saturday November 7th 2009, Detroit 1st Battalion companies responded to a reported commercial building fire at Chene & E Ferry. While enroute Engine 23 reported they could see it and would be stretching. Upon arrival Engine 23 reported a 2 story 50 X 80 vacant store front going throughout. Chief 1 arrived and assumed command and request and extra Engine Truck and Squad above the box alarm assignment. due to fire and structure conditions this fire was fought in defensive mode. Ladder 6's Platform was place into operation on the A side of the building and Ladder 10's water tower was set up on the D side of the building. companies operated for aprox. 2 hours to bring this fire under control using numerous handlines and 1 Platform and 1 Water tower. Engine 23/9/41/17 Ladder 10/6 Squad 2/3 Chief 1 responded to this box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Manistique & E Jefferson 11-2-09 : On Monday November 2nd 2009, While Detroit 6th Battalion companies were operating at a dwelling fire on Philip & E Jefferson. Companies were informed of an additonal fire on Manistique & E Jefferson. Squad 6 was sent to investigate and found a working fire in a vacant dwelling, the box alarm was requested by Chief 6 operating at the other fire. Engine 58 stretched on this dwelling. Fire was brought under control in aprox. 30 minutes using 3 lines. Engines 58/32/41 Ladder 19 Squad 3/6 and Chief 9 responded to this box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Philip & E Jefferson 11-02-09 : On Monday November 2nd 2009, Detroit 6th Battalion companies responded to a reported dwelling fire on Philip Between E Jefferson & Essex. Upon arrival of Engine 38 they reported a vacant 2 family flat going throughout and they were stretching. Upon arrival of Chief 6 he assumed command, conducted an incident size up, And due to fire and building conditions ordered a defensive attack on this fire and protection of the exposure. Chief 6 request a 2nd truck to scene with a working water tower. Upon arrival Ladder 31's Ladder Pipe was put into operation. This fire was brought under control in aprox 2 hours. Engines 38/32/52 Ladder 14/31 Squad 6 and Chief 6 responded to this box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Goulburn & Greiner 11-02-09 : On Monday November 2nd 2009, Detroit 9th Battalion companies responded to a reported vacant dwelling fire at Goulburn & Greiner. Upon arrival of Engine 50 they reported a single family dwelling totally involved and stretched on the dwelling. Due to fire and structure conditions Chief 9 ordered a defensive attack on this Dwelling & Protection of the exposure. Ladder 23's Ladder pipe was put into operation. This fire was brought under control in aprox. 1.5 hours. Engines 50/58/60 Ladder 23 Squad 6 and Chief 9 responded to this box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Barlow & McNichols 9-7-09 : On Monday September 7th 2009, Detroit 9th Battalion companies responded to a reported dwelling fire at Barlow & E McNichols. Upon arrival of Engine 50 they reported a working fire in a 1.5 story vacant dwelling secured with VPS on the doors and windows. Upon arrival crews stretched on the dwelling and prepared to make entry to the building, Crews encountered some difficulty removing the VPS from the Dwelling. Once the dwelling was opened up crews made entry and knocked the fire down, Companies operated at this scene for aprox. 40 minutes to bring this fire under control. Engines 50/58/60 Ladder 23 Squad 6 and Chief 9 responded to this box alarm.

Engine 58 dumped there monitor on arrival knocking the bulk of the fire down and crews made entry into the dwelling. This fire was brought under control in aprox. 30 minutes using the full box alarm. Vennia Township, MI 5th Alarm + 11152 N Saginaw 8-4-09 : On Tuesday August 4th 2009 at about 3:30 pm The Clio (MI) Fire Department responded to a reported fire at White Oil Co. 11152 N Saginaw Rd. Vienna Township MI. Upon arrival Heavy fire conditions were showing from the Building. Mutual Aid was requested to the scene on arrival and the Genesee County HAZMAT team was activated. Upon building size up, fire conditions and numerous explosions additional resources were requested and Genesee County Coordination was requested. Fire Departments from Genesee, Saginaw, and Livingston counties responded to this incident.  This building housed numerous Oil/Fuel products and was a complete loss due to this fire. 2 Firefighters suffered minor injury at this incident. This incident was still not under control 12 hours after the original dispatch.

Detroit Box Alarm Rosa Parks & Elm Fatal Fire 8-4-09 : On Tuesday August 4th 2009, Detroit 5th Battalion companies responded to a reported dwelling fire on Rosa Parks & Elm. Upon arrival of Ladder 20 they reported a working fire in an occupied 2 story dwelling. Was also reported that there was a person barricaded inside the dwelling and the subject did not come out of the house. Crews preformed search and rescue and located one victim in the dwelling and removed the victim through a window. 1 person self evacuated from and building and was treated by EMS. The victim removed by Firefighters was a fatality. Engines 1/5/8/10 Ladder 20 Squad 2 and Chief 5 responded to this alarm.

Hamtramck Dwelling Fire Hanley & Jos Campau 7-26-09 : On Sunday July 26th 2009, The Hamtramck Fire Department responded to a reported house on fire at Hanley & Joseph Campau. Upon arrival HFD found a 2.5 store dwelling heavily involved on the 2nd floor and through the roof. Tower was set up and put into operation. The Detroit Fire Department arrived on the scene on a smoke investigation in the area and assisted the Hamtramck Fire Department. HFD Engine 1&2 Tower 1, Rescue 1 and Fire Marshall responded to this location.

Hazel Park, MI Tanker Explosion 7-15-08 : On Wednesday July 15th 2009, The Hazel Park Fire Department responded to Northbound I-75 at 9 Mile road for a vehicle accident with a tanker that exploded. Upon arrival a fuel tanker was found under the 9 Mile Bridge fully involved. Hazel Park FD requested Mutual Aid from Ferndale, Madison Heights and Royal Oak Fire Departments. The OAKWAY HAZMAT team was also activated for this incident. The 9 Mile Bridge completely collapsed from this incident. I-75 has been shut down indefinitely as a result of this incident.

Oak Park Building Fire 12700 Northend 7-6-09 : On Monday July 6th 2009, The Oak Park Public Safety Department responded to a reported fire in the Area of Northend & Meyers. Upon arrival heavy smoke was reported showing from the 1 story 100x150 body shop. Fire attack was started by Oak Park with Off Duty callbacks requested to scene and for Police coverage, Mutual Aid was requested from Berkley Public Safety for Ladder to the Scene & Huntington Woods DPS for traffic control. This fire was brought under control in aprox. 2 hours. Using 3 ladder pipes, with 2 Engine’s pumping. Oak Park 541,542,543 and Berkley 421 operated at this scene.

Southfield  Building Fire Greenfield & 12 Mile 6-27-09 : On Saturday June 27th 2009, The Southfield Fire Department responded to a reported building fire in the area of 12 mile and Greenfield. While enroute dispatch advised they were receiving numerous calls on the fire. Station 3 advised while enroute that smoke was visible from a distance. Upon arrival of Station 3 they reported heavy fire showing from the rear of the building. Command requested a 3rd & 4th station to the scene. Station 3 & 5 started fire attack with 601 in command. Fire attacked was made from the interior and crews made good progress. Crews were later pulled out for tower operation for fire showing from the roof of the building. And after the main body of fire was knocked down crews continued interior operation for hotspots and overhaul.  Companies operated for aprox. 2 hours to bring this fire under control.

Detroit Box Alarm Caldwell & Rupert 6-25-09 : On Thursday June 25th 2009, Detroit Fire companies responded to the area of Rupert & Caldwell for a reported dwelling fire, upon arrival of Ladder 30 they reported a vacant 2 story dwelling going throughout. Engine 60 stretched on the dwelling, Ladder 30 set up for tower operations on arrival. This fire was fought defensively until the fire was knocked down and conditions improved allowing for interior operations, Companies operated at this fire for aprox 1.5 hours to bring the fire under control with 4 lines used. Detroit 2nd Alarm #2 13300 Joseph Campau & E Davison : On Sunday May 10th 2009, Detroit companies operating at the scene of the 2nd alarm reported heavy fire conditions showing and requested extra companies. Upon arrival of Chief 8 he reported heavy fire showing through the roof of the vacant 2 story building aprox. 250 x 150. Chief 8 requested a platform and extra engine to the scene. Southfield 2nd Alarm Building Fire 16310 12 Mile 4-7-09 : On Tuesday April 7th 2009, At aprox. 1330 hours Southfield Fire Dispatch, Dispatched report of smoke in a building on the 2nd floor of the 2 story office building. At 16310 12 Mile & Pierce. Upon arrival the 1st company reported showing from the "C" side of the building. Command then request a 3rd Station respond to the scene. Companies started an interior attack on the building aprox. 60 X 150 2 Story.  Crews encountered some water problems at the location. At this time command advised all crews to evacuated the building until a good water source was secured. At this time fire conditions worsened. The fire appeared to be in the attic space of the building. Command went totally defensive on this fire. Tower 5 was set up in the rear of the building and addition resources from the Southfield Fire Dept were requested and off duty call backs were made. With All Apparatus committed command requested mutual aid bring Royal Oak FD to the scene with an Engine, Chief and Truck (Bronto Skylift). And Bloomfield Township FD to fill in Southfield station. This fire was fought totally Defensive using 2 tower ladders and with 5 Engines pumping. Companies operated at this scene for about 4 hours. The building was a total loss with roof loss and building collapse.

March 2009 Firehouse Magazine Cover : On Sunday December 7th, 2008 around 11:00 am the Roseville Fire Department received a 911 call from Consumers Power reporting a building fire at B&D Upholstery shop located at 26641 Gratiot Ave.  Upon receipt of the call Roseville Fire dispatched a General Alarm to the scene.  Upon arrival of E-2 they reported light smoke showing from the rear of the building and blackened windows on the front side.  They began operations and set up for an interior attack, Command requested a Special Alarm from Eastpointe Fire/Rescue for the Truck to be utilized as R.I.T (Rapid Intervention Team).  Eastpointe responded and set up R.I.T initially but due to worsening conditions inside of the building crews where forced out, and Command ordered a 2nd Alarm, brining St. Clair Shores, Warren, Clinton Twp., and Harrison Twp. to the scene.  Eastpointe Truck was placed into a position in front of the building and was ordered to deploy the aerial tower.  Crews from the 6 communities worked for over 5 hours to control this fire.  Pictured on the cover is Eastpointe Lt. Kramer and Roseville Lt. Crachiolo along with Eastpointe's Tower in operation.

A Hazmat Level 2 was declared. Engines 40/42/49 Ladder 26/17 Squad 5  Hazmat 1 & Chief 4 responded on the Box Alarm. Upon building and fire conditions Chief 4 requested a 2nd Alarm. Bringing Engines 55/54/57 Ladder 27 Squad 1 and Chief 2 Car 203 & 201 to the scene. This fire was fought in Defensive Mode using 1 Platform, 2 Water Towers and Several handlines, Companies operated at this scene for a extended amount of time due to building collapse. Detroit Box Alarm Roxbury & Courville 2-1-09 : On Sunday February 1st 2009, Detroit 9th battalion companies responded to a reported fire in an occupied dwelling at Roxbury and Courville. Upon arrival of Squad 6 smoke was showing from the upper floor and attic of Story and half occupied dwelling. The fire was contained to 1 room with minor extension. Cause of the fire was malfunction wall heating unit. Engines 58/50/46 Ladder 23 Squad 6 & Chief 9 responded to the box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Chalmers & Bonita Apartment Fire 1-31-09 : On Saturday January 31st 2009 Detroit 9th Battalion companies responded to a reported apartment fire at Chalmers & Bonita. Upon arrival of Squad 6 smoke was showing from the 1 story occupied apartment house. E58 stretched on this fire. The fire was quickly knocked down. Fire was contained to the original fire apartment with some minor extension to the common attic space. Engine 58/50/60 Ladder 23 Squad 6 and Chief 9 responded to this box alarm.

Detroit Concord & Lambert Packard Plant 1-15-09 : On Thursday January 15th 2009, Detroit 1st Battalion companies responded to a reported dwelling fire at Medbury & Concord. Upon arrival of Engine 23 they advised they had fire showing front the vacant Packard plant. Upon arrival Engines 23 and Engine 46 stretched Ladders 10 & 16 Laddered the building. Upon arrival of Deputy Chief 202 crews were pulled from the building until the conditions could be properly assessed. Due to the building conditions. Once the scene was checked by 202 & Chief 1 crew were allowed to re enter the building and perform fire attack. There were several fires on floors 2, 3 & 4 in the north end of the building. Companies operated for aprox. 2.5 hours at this scene. Engines 23/46/09/35/01 Ladders 10/16 Squad 3/2 Chief 1 and 202 responded to this alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Saratoga & Gratiot 1-13-09 : On Tuesday January 13th 2009, Detroit 9th Battalion, Engine 60 & Ladder 23 responded to the area of Saratoga & Gratiot checking for a fire. While Enroute central office received updated information of a dwelling fire and the box was send. This fire in 1sty dwelling was quickly knocked down using 1 line. Engines 60/58/38/52 Ladder 23 Squad 6 and Chief 6 responded to this box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm 9700 Chalmers & Elmdale Apartment Fire : On Monday January 12th 2009, Detroit 9th Battalion companies responded to a reported apartment building on fire at 9700 Chalmers between Elmdale & Longview. Upon arrival Engine found smoke showing from a 2sty occupied apartment building. Engine 50 stretched on the fire. The fire was contained to a first floor end unit of the building. The fire was quickly knocked down. Engines 50/58/46/52 Ladder 23/31 Squad 6 Chief 9 responded to this box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm 8958 Culver & Marcus 3 Rescued 1-11-09 : On Sunday January 11th 2009 at aprox. 2200 hours, Detroit Fire Central Office dispatched a box alarm to Culver Between Marcus & Georgia for a reported dwelling fire. While companions were enroute Central reported they received additional information that there were people trapped in the dwelling. Upon arrival on Engine 46 they report smoke showing and a working basement fire. Upon entry to the dwelling E46 reported that there were people trapped. Crews removed 2 victims from the dwelling (Code 1). With Detroit EMS not on the scene yet Squad 3 and Engine 50's crew transposed the 2 victims found to the hospital in Squad 3's rig. With the rest of the box alarm assignment with and extra Truck and Squad, continued with search and rescue operations. 1 more victim was located in the dwelling and rescued be Engine 50, this victim was transported by Detroit EMS Medic 17 (Code 1) to the hospital also. After the rescues were complete fire attack continued and this fire was quickly brought under control. Engines 46/50/23/52 Ladder 19/16 Squad 3/6 Chief 9 responded to this Box Alarm. Detroit EMS Medic's 15/17 and EMS Supervisor 1107 also responded.

Detroit 2nd Alarm 15815 Gratiot & Greiner 1-6-09 : On Tuesday January 6th 2009, Detroit 9th Battalion companies responded to a reported building fire at 15815 Gratiot at Greiner. While Enroute Chief 9 reported he could see it and Engine 50 would be stretching. Chief 9 requested and additional Engine Truck and Squad above the box alarm assignment. Upon building size up and fire conditions Chief 9 immediately request a 2nd Alarm. The bulk of the fire was brought under control in about an hour and a half. Companies remained on the scene for several hours working hot spots. Engines 50/58/60/52 Ladder 23/19 Squad 6/3 Chief 9 responded on the initial box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm 5711 Chene & E Palmer 1-6-09 : On Tuesday January 6th 2009, Detroit 5th Battalion companies responded to a reported building fire at Chene & E Palmer. Upon arrival of Engine Co. 23 they reported smoke showing from a commercial building and they were stretching. An Additional Engine for RIT and an extra truck was requested by the IC. This fire was fought Defensive using 1 Ladder Pipe, 1 Tower and several handlines. Companies operated at this scene for an extended amount of time due to building collapse. Engines 23/09/05/17 Ladder 10/6 Squad 3 and Chief 5 responded to this alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Fordham & Rex 1-5-09 : On Monday January 5th 2009, Detroit 9th Battalion companies responded to a reported dwelling fire at Fordham & Rex. Upon arrival of Engine 58 a stretched on an occupied dwelling with heavy fire showing. This fire was brought under control using the full box alarm assignment in about 30 Mins. Primary and Secondary searches were completed with negative results. Engines 58/50/60 Ladder 23/31 Squad 6 Chief 9 responded to this box alarm.
