Detroit Box Alarm Conger & Van Dyke Dwelling Fire 12-10-08 : On Wednesday December 10th 2008, Detroit Central Office dispatched a report of a dwelling fire at Conger & Van Dyke. Information was given that there was a report of people trapped inside the dwelling. Upon arrival of Ladder 19/Engine 46 they reported a working fire and Engine 46 stretched on the dwelling. Upon a primary and secondary search the dwelling was found vacant. Engines 46/23/09/50 Ladder 19 Squad 3 & Chief 1 responded to this Box Alarm. Companies operated for aprox. 1 hour to bring this fire under control.

Hamtramck Andrus & Lumpkin Building Fire 12-02-08 : On Tuesday December 2nd 2008, The Hamtramck Fire Department responded to a report of a building fire at Lumpkin & Andrus. Upon arrival there was a working fire. HFD started an attack on the fire and switched to defensive operations after not making progress. Off Duty call backs were made for HFD personal. This fire was fought in defensive mode. Hamtramck FD responded with Engines 1,2 & 4, Rescue 1 & Tower 1. Mutual aid was requested from Highland Park FD for another Tower. Companies operated through the night to bring this fire under control.

Detroit Box Alarm Glendale & Lasalle 11-24-08 : On Monday November 24th Engine 40 was dispatched to Glendale & Lasalle for a vehicle fire, upon arrival a vehicle extended to the rear of a 2 family flat was found and engine 40 requested the Box. The fire was quickly knocked down in the dwelling in about 20 mins. Engines 40/35/42 Ladder 17 Squad 5 and Chief 5 responded to the box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Ewers & Michigan 11-24-08 : On Monday November 24th 2008, Detroit 7th Battalion companines were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire at Ewers South of Michigan Ave. Engine 39 returning from getting air reported heavy smoke in the area and responded to the box alarm. Upon arrival Engine 39 reported a dwelling going and stretched on the 2sty dwelling with heavy fire in the rear. This fire was brought under control in about 30 mins using the full box alarm. Engines 39/10/27/08 Ladder 22 Squad 4 Chief 7 responded to this box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Maplelawn & Wyoming 11-23-08 : On Sunday November 23rd 2008, Engine 49 was dispatched to a still alarm to Maplelawn & Wyoming to investigate smoke in the area. While Enroute Central advised Engine 49 they were receiving multiple calls now reporting a dwelling fire on Maplelawn and they were giving them the Box. Upon arrival Engine 49 reported a 2sty dwelling going. Upon arrival of the Chief and Fire conditions the fire was fought Defensive due to fire through the roof, Ladder 21 was put in operation. This Fire was brought under control using the full box alarm assignment in about an hour and a half. Engines 49/42/34 Ladder 21 Squad 5 and Chief 2 responded to this box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Newport & Mack 11-09-08 : On Sunday November 9th 2008, Detroit 6th Battalion companines responded to a reported dwelling fire at Newport & Mack. upon arrival of Engine 52 a vacant dwelling was found going throughout and engine 52 hit the dwelling with the monitor and this caused the dwelling to collopse. Per Chief 6 this fire was fought in defensive mode with there being no expousures Truck 31's water tower was used to knock the fire down. After the bulk of the fire was knocked down Chief 6 left the fire with 2 Engines and a Truck. Engines 52/32/38/46 Ladder 31 Squad 6 and Chief 6 responded to this box.

Detroit 2nd Alarm W Fort & Livernois 10-16-08 : On Thursday October 16th 2008, at aprox. 0700 hours Detroit Central Office dispatched a Box Alarm to W Fort & Livernois, For a reported of smoke coming from the roof of a commercial building. Upon arrival of Chief 7 he reported smoke showing and the first arriving engine would be stretching on a commercial building. An interior attack was started. An Extra Engine & Truck were called. The interior attack was terminated upon not making good progress and the breaking through the roof. Chief 7 ordered all companies out of the building and water towers were set up. The bulk of the fire was knocked down using the water towers and companies re-entered the building to put out hot spots and perform extensive overhaul on the building. Engines 27/33/29/10/42/34 Ladders 8/13/17 Squad 4/5 Chief 7/1 Cars 203/200 responded to this Second Alarm.

Detroit 2nd Alarm W Davison & Lasalle 9-29-08 W/ Video : On Sunday September 29th 2008, Detroit Fire companies responded to a reported fire in hardware store located on W Davison between Lasalle & Linwood. Upon arrival of Squad 5 they reported smoke showing from an occupied 1sty 80x300 hardware store. Squad 5 requested a hazmat level 1 due to the contents of the building. And an extra engine was requested. Upon arrival of Chief 8 and fire conditions Chief 8 request and additional Engine & Truck. With fire attack in progress and no progress being made Chief 8 requested a 2nd Alarm. This fire was fought defensive using 1 Platform, 1 Ladder Pipe, Monitors and Several handlines. Companies operated at this scene for an extended amount of time (6 + Hours), with relief companies ordered. Upon arrival of Engine Co. 9 they advised they were stretching on a vacant 2-Family flat extending to and occupied exposure dwelling. Upon assessment of the dwelling and fire conditions the vacant dwelling was fought defensive only. Companies worked to protect the exposure dwelling. Ladder 14's water tower was put to work and the vacant dwelling collapsed onto the occupied exposure dwelling. Companies operated for an extended amount of time due to collapse of the vacant dwelling and extension to the occupied dwelling. Detroit 2nd Alarm Garfield & Woodward 9-3-08 : On Wednesday September 3rd 2008, Engine 5 was dispatched to a box alarm for a fire in an apartment building at Woodward & Garfield. While enroute Engine 5 advised they could see it and would be stretching upon arrival Engine 5 found a Large 4sty vacant apartment building going throughout and requested a 2nd alarm on arrival. Upon arrival of Chief 5 3 extra trucks were special called to the scene. This fire was brought under control in about 2 hours using defensive operations only. 3 Ladder Pipes 1 Platform, Several Deck guns and handline operated at this fire to bring it under control.

Detroit Box Alarm Military & Cadet 9-1-08 : On Monday September 1st 2008, Detroit 7th battalion companies responded to a box alarm at Casgrain & Regular, upon finding a small fire in a dwelling, Chief 7 left the fire with the 1st Engine & Truck, while returning from that location Chief 7 reported heavy smoke showing 2 blocks over from that fire location. Upon arrival a vacant 1.2 story Dwelling was found going throughout. This fire was brought under control using monitors and 3 handlines on the fire. The fire was brought under control in about 20 mins. Engines 27/33/29/10 Ladder 8 Squad 4 and Chief 7 responded to this Box alarm.

Detroit 2nd Alarm Sturdevent & Dexter 8-30-08 : On Saturday August 30th 2008, Detroit Fire Central Office dispatched a reported apartment building fire at Sturdevant & Dexter. While Enroute Ladder 17 reported that they could see it from quarters. Upon arrival a 3 story apartment building 60 x 150 was found going on the top floor. Companies on the scene reported a doubtful and requested an additional Truck and Squad. Upon building size up and fire conditions on arrival of Chief 5 the building was evacuated and a 2nd alarm was requested. This fire fought defensive using Truck 28's water tower and Truck 17 platform and several 2.5 inch handlines and monitors. Detroit fire companies found this fire defensive for aprox. 4 hours when the fire was placed under control.

Southfield Dwelling Fire 20273 Woodburn 8-29-08 : On Friday August 29th 2008, The Southfield Fire Department responded to a reported house fire on Woodburn. Upon arrival a 2sty Single family dwelling was found going, with downed wires on the dwelling, the dwelling was also charged by the down wires. The Southfield Fire Department responded with three stations and upon size up of fire command requested a 4th station respond to the fire scene. This fire was fought in a defensive mode due to the charged dwelling until the wires were cleared by DTE. This fire in this occupied dwelling was brought under control in about and an hour and a half. Stations 1, 2, 3, 5 Responded to this Fire.

Detroit Apparatus Accident Woodward & McNichols Tactical Mobile Squad 5 : On Thursday August 21st 2008, Detroit Fire Department Central Office dispatched a box alarm to Hollywood and Woodward for a reported dwelling fire at aprox 0715 hours. While responding Tactical Mobile Squad 5 was involved in a roll over accident at Woodward & Mcnichols. The Squad was extensively damaged in the Accident. All 4 members were transported to the hospital and are now reported to have minor non-life threatening injurys. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Michigan State Police.

Detroit Box Alarm Chelsea & Queen 8-11-08 : On Monday August 11th 2008 Detroit 9th Battalion companies were dispatched to yet another dwelling fire. Upon arrival of Engine 50 they advised they were stretching on a vacant dwelling going throughout. Chief 9 requested a 4th Engine for RIT. This was initially fought as an interior attack but with conditions not improving and fire through the roof Chief 9 ordered all companies out and Ladder 23 was put into operation. Detroit Box Alarm Bewick & E Jefferson 8-1-08 : On Friday August 1st 2008 Detroit Fire Department Central Office dispatched a reported vacant dwelling fire. Upon arrival of Ladder 14 they reported the 1st Engine would be stretching on a vacant 2-Family Flat. Upon on arrival of Chief 1 command was established and an extra Engine for RIT was requested. Upon initial interior fire attack and conditions Chief 1 requested that companies exit the building. Detroit Box Alarm With Numerous Special Calls (4th Alarm Equv) 2 Woodward Ave Coleman A. Young Municipal Center 6-27-08 : On Friday June 27th Central Office dispatch a still alarm for Engine 9 Ladder 1 Chief 1 to the Coleman A. Young Municipal building for a report of a unknown fire. Upon arrival and investigation Chief 1 requested the box for smoke showing. The Senior Chief (Car 203) also responded to this box and assumed command upon arrival. The fire was located in the basement of the building in an electrical transformer. Car 203 requested the hazmat unit to the scene for possible pcb's in the transformer. Companies operated at this scene for aprox. 4 hours. Numerous Special calls were made on this Box for addtl companies for manpower relief and staging. This was the equivalent of a 3rd Alarm after the Special Calls.

Detroit Box Alarm Maxwell & I-94 2 Dwellings 5-28-08 W/ Video : On Wednesday May 28th 2008 Detroit Fire companies responded to a reported dwelling fire at Maxwell & I-94 Service Drive. While enroute Engine 23 reported smoke showing and upon arrival advised they were stretching on 2 dwellings going. The officer of E-23 then requested an extra engine & truck for manpower. The fire was brought under control in aprox. 1 hour using the full box alarm assignment. Engines 23/46/9/52 Ladders 19/10 Squad 3 and Chief 1 responded to this alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Penrose & Charleston 5-2-08 : On Friday May 2nd 2008 at aprox. Midnight Detroit 8th Battalion companies were dispatched to a box alarm for a reported dwelling fire at Penrose & Charleston. Upon arrival of Truck 18 they advised the 1st engine would be stretching on a vacant dwelling going throughout. Engine 44 arrived on scene and stretched on the dwelling. the fire was brought under control using the full box alarm assignment in approx. 40 mins. Engines 44/56/51 Truck 18 Squad 5 and Chief 8 responded to this box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Pingree & Second 5-1-08 : On Thursday May 1st 2008 Detroit 5th Battalion companies responded to a reported dwelling fire at Pingree & Second. Upon Arrival of Engine 39 they advised they were stretching on a vacant dwelling going throughout. Chief 5 then requested an additional company for RIT. Upon arrival of the Chief and building size up this fire was fought in defensive mode. The fire was brought under control using the full box alarm assignment plus an extra 2 engines & truck in about an hour and a half. Engine 39/35/17/5/23 Ladders 7/28 Squad 2 and Chief 5 responded to this box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Owen & John R 4-17-08 : On Thursday April 17th 2008, Detroit Fire Department Communications dispatch a box alarm to Owen Between John R & Brush for a reported dwelling fire. Upon arrival of Engine 35 they advised they had a working fire and they would be stretching. Chief 5 arrived on the scene and assumed command and requested a fourth engine for RIT. A interior attack was made on the dwelling. and as crews made the attic and conditions did not improve Chief 5 evacuated the fire building and set up the tower for an exterior attack. The fire in the 2.5 story dwelling was brought under control in aprox. 1 hour using the full box alarm assignment. Engines 35/39/17/5 Ladder 7 Squad 3 and Chief 5 responded to this Box Alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Hunt & Joseph Campau 4-5-08 : On Saturday April 5th 2008, Detroit 1st Battalion companies responded to a box alarm for a fire reported in a dwelling at Hunt & Joseph Campau. While enroute central office advised Detroit Police were on the scene reporting a working fire. Upon arrival of Squad 3 they reported a dwelling going throughout and the 1st engine will stretch. Also information was received that there was possibly someone trapped in the dwelling. The fire was brought under control in aprox 1 hour, Using the full box alarm assignment plus and extra engine for RIT. A primary and secondary search was completed on the dwelling with no occupants found. Engines 23/9/5/1 Ladders 6/10 Squad 3 and Chief 1 responded to this box alarm.

On Monday Febuary 25th 2008 Ritchie Volunteers Engine Co. 837 while on a pre-plan walk thru was alerted to stand-by for a report of a house fire, At 2102 Ode Rd. Upon arrival of Engine 837 a occupied 2 story wood frame dwelling was found with heavy smoke showing. Engine 837 stretched 150' foot bumper line and 1 pre-connect on the dwelling and made an aggressive interior attack and had the fire knocked down within a half hour of the intital attack.

Chicago Still & Box Alarm 5900 Laflin 1-21-08 : CHICAGO: On Sunday Jan. 21, the Englewood Fire Alarm Office (E.F.A.O) Dispatched a Still Alarm for a report of a House Fire with people trapped to 5700 block of Laflin Between 57th & 58th Streets. 

The Office Dispatched the alarm as a Still & Box after there were multiple calls and reports of people trapped in the fire building. 

When firefighters from Engine Co. 116 arrived, they reported that they were on the scene with a fire and attempted to start a search. Upon a primary search of the fire building, Squad Company #5 members made a rescue of a 2-year-old child from the structure and the other injured family member was able to self evacuate from the building. There were a total of 12 family members in the building at the time of the fire and all were able to exit the building except the two victims that were injured. The two injured victims were transported by CFD EMS yellow to the hospital (Non-Life Threatening). 

Offensive attack on the fire was terminated per DDC-5 upon review of fire conditions and Command went Defensive on this fire. The fire was brought under control in about an hour and a half using several handlines, E116's Deck gun and a Tower Ladder. 

The cause of the fire was determined to be careless use of a space heater. The structure was a total loss.

Detroit Box Alarm Joseph Campau & Arndt 1-3-08 : On Wednesday, January 3, 2008, Detroit Central Office dispatched a Box Alarm for a fire reported in a dwelling at Joseph Campau & Arndt. While enroute Ladder 10 advised they could see it and the first engine would be stretching. Upon arrival Ladder 10 took command until arrival of the chief and requested an additional engine on the box. Fire was in a vacant 2.5 story dwelling with fire throughout. This fire was fought defensive until conditions improved and entry was allowed for an interior attack. The fire was brought under control in approx. 1 hour using the full box alarm. Engine 23/9/1/5, Ladder 10, Squad 3 and Chief 1 responded to this Box Alarm.

Upon arrival of Engine 50 they advised they had smoke showing and were stretching passing command. Chief 9 assumed command upon arrival. Fire was in a 1.5 story vacant dwelling with origin of fire in the basement. Engines 50/58/60 Ladder 19 Squad 6 and Chief 9 responded to this box alarm. Companies operated for aprox. 45 minutes.

Came in as an occupied dwelling fire with people possibly trapped. Upon arrival of Engine 50 they advised they were stretching on an occupied 2.3 sty dwelling, with people self evacuating. Detroit Peter Hunt & Robert 3-1-08 : On Saturday March 1st 2008, At aprox 2220 hours,  Detroit Central Office dispatched a Still alarm for Engine 23 & Ladder 30 to the area of Peter Hunt & Robert for companies checking for a possible dwelling fire. Upon arrival of Engine 23 they advised they were stretching on a dwelling and requesting the box. Central office sent the remainder of the box alarm assignment. Companies were responding outside there first alarm districts due to numerous other fires, low manpower and a extra alarm fire all going on at the same time. There was also a bad hydrant right in front of the fire building, Engine 23 had to stretch down the block to the next working hydrant. Engines 23/60/32/46 Ladder 30 Squad 6 and Chief 9 responded to this box alarm. Companies operated for aprox. 2 hours working on suppression and overhaul.
